OUR APPROACH
Compassionate, Trauma-Informed Care
At BFF, we create a safe, supportive space where women can process their experiences at their own pace. There is no pressure, no judgment — just compassionate care that meets you where you are.
Our trauma-informed, strengths-based approaches honour each woman's unique journey. We believe in your resilience and your capacity to heal, and we work collaboratively to help you rebuild confidence and move forward on your own terms.
Our circle of care approach means you're supported by a collaborative team. If family, children, or relationship concerns are part of your story, care is coordinated thoughtfully across the team so every aspect of your well-being is considered.
Our approach is:
- Trauma-informed and strengths-based — honouring your resilience and your story
- Emotionally focused — processing feelings in a safe, supportive space
- Boundary-building — learning to prioritize your own needs
- Empowerment-focused — rebuilding confidence and self-worth
What is Trauma-Informed Therapy?
Trauma-informed therapy recognizes how past experiences shape your present feelings, relationships, and sense of safety. Rather than asking "what's wrong with you?", it asks "what happened to you?" — creating space for healing without judgement or pressure.
At our Kanata, Ottawa clinic, we prioritize safety, trust, and empowerment. You set the pace. Our therapists are trained in trauma-informed approaches that help you process difficult experiences, rebuild confidence, and develop healthier patterns — all within a safe, supportive relationship.
Women's therapy can help with:
- Recovering from unhealthy or controlling relationships
- Setting boundaries and prioritizing your needs
- Anxiety, depression, and emotional overwhelm
- Rebuilding self-worth after loss or trauma

Common Questions
Frequently Asked Questions
What does therapy for women look like at BFF?
Therapy at BFF is a safe, compassionate space where you can explore your feelings, experiences, and goals at your own pace. We use trauma-informed approaches that honour your story and focus on your strengths. Sessions are 50 minutes, and we work collaboratively to address what matters most to you.
I'm dealing with a difficult relationship — can therapy help?
Yes. Whether you're navigating an unhealthy relationship, recovering from one, or trying to build healthier patterns, therapy can help you understand your experiences, set boundaries, and make informed decisions about your next steps.
What if I'm not sure I'm ready for therapy?
That's completely okay. Many women start with our free 20-minute consultation just to talk through what's going on. There's no pressure, and you can take as much time as you need to decide if therapy feels right for you.
How long does therapy take?
It depends on your needs and goals. Some women benefit from short-term support (6-8 sessions), while others prefer ongoing therapy. We'll discuss what makes sense for you during your free consultation.
Is everything I share confidential?
Yes. Confidentiality is a cornerstone of therapy. What you share stays between you and your therapist, with very few legal exceptions that we'll explain in your first session. You are in control of what you share and when.
Is therapy covered by insurance?
Yes. Most extended healthcare plans cover therapy with a Registered Psychotherapist (Qualifying), including Blue Cross, Canada Life, Manulife, Sun Life, and Veterans Affairs (VAC). Individual therapy is $180 per 50-minute session.
What does "person-centered" therapy actually mean in sessions with Teanna?
Person-centered means you lead. Teanna doesn't arrive with a fixed agenda or a checklist of what you 'should' work on — instead she follows your story, reflects back what she hears, and helps you make sense of it at your own pace. The goal is for you to feel genuinely heard and to grow self-awareness, rather than being talked at or labelled. It's especially helpful if past experiences have left you feeling unheard or boxed in.
Can therapy help with grief or a major life transition like divorce or an empty nest?
Yes — grief and life transitions are a core focus of Teanna's work with women. Whether you're grieving a person, a relationship, a role, or a chapter of your life that's ending, therapy gives you space to feel it without rushing to 'move on.' Teanna helps you process the loss, sit with the uncertainty transitions bring, and rebuild a sense of direction and resilience on the other side.
Teanna is a Qualifying psychotherapist completing her Master's — what does that mean for me?
Teanna holds the Registered Psychotherapist (Qualifying) designation and is completing her MA in Counselling Psychology, with her clinical practicum at Bridge for Families under the supervision of a senior registered psychotherapist. In practice this means your care is reviewed and supported by an experienced clinician, and her sessions are offered at $180. Her background as a former first responder also gives her a grounded, real-world understanding of stress and trauma.
